Training boosts writing of Indigenous literature from writers' local language

Believing that saving indigenous languages is crucial to its commitment to protecting the Ifugao heritage, Ifugao State University (IFSU) held a workshop focused on writing the indigenous literature of Hungduan town in their homegrown language.

Dubbed, “Effective Writing for the Professions: A Writeshop for Cultural Workers and Creative Writers,” said training gathered teachers from the Department of Education - Ifugao Division, cultural workers, students, and college instructors at Hapao Campus on July 28-29.

Resource Speaker Dr. Aurelio S. Acgaoili, professor at the University of Hawaii and a United States Fulbright Scholar, discussed the elements of good writing and the practical techniques of effective written communication geared toward professional development for cultural workers, teachers, and writing instructors.

Dr. Jose G. Daniels, Campus Executive Director, said the writeshop targets to create reference materials for research studies and to help address the needs in the implementation of the Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTBMLE) Curriculum since up to this time there are no written records on the different indigenous literature of the place.
