IFSU, UPLB-JESAM hold journal article writeshop series
The Ifugao State University (IFSU) through the Department of Extension and Training (DET) and Department of Research Development (DRD) conducted a Journal Article Writing Writeshop Series in collaboration with the Editorial Team of the UPLB Journal of Environmental Science and Management (JESAM) which is a Web of Science and Scopus Indexed Journal among IFSU faculty and staff via Zoom on November 22-24,2021
Dr. Dinah Corazon M. Licyayo, Vice President for Research Development, Extension and Training (RDET) in her Welcome Remarks disclosed that said event is a part of the series of activities to realize their plan in 2019 to come up with a journal for the DET and another journal for the DRD.
Participants consist of faculty members with completed RDE researches and projects to make sure that a publishable output are made at the end of the three-day event. Staff who have not necessarily produced research attended as observers.
“I urge all participants to make the most of this training to give justice to the efforts of resource speakers from a prestigious journal and investment of the government to research development,” Licyayo stressed.
Meanwhile, Dr. Felino P. Lansigan, Editor-In-Chief of JESAM, shared that a researcher must contribute to the body of knowledge through using the scientific method and sharing his/her works through publication.
“There should be a culture of research in the institution. We also need to set up and establish a mentoring environment to research and publish and present papers in conferences," added Lansigan. “We should also institute a culture of recognition, awards, and citation and if possible with a monetary incentive attached to them. We, at JESAM, is committed to raising science and technology publication in the country.”
Topics discussed included Technical Writing Articles for Scientific Journals, The Role of Journals and the Importance of Peer Review Process, Clarivate Analytics-Web of Science, Manuscript Formatting, Similarity Checking, Databasing, Planning your Title: Writing the Article Outline and Introduction, Preparing the Review of Related Literature and Materials and Methods, and Writing the Results and Discussion, Conclusion and Recommendation and Abstract.
