IFSU reaffirms commitment to gender equality, inclusivity at NWMC-themed Monday

Signifying support and oneness to this year’s National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC), Ifugao State University (IFSU) pledged to work towards building a gender-equal and inclusive society, today during the flag-raising ceremony sponsored by the Department of Gender and Development Research and Resource Center in partnership with the Department of Socio-cultural Affairs.

With a new recurring theme from this year to 2028, “WE for gender equality and inclusive society”, University President Dr. Eva Marie Codamon-Dugyon, officials, employees, and students of IFSU campuses have sworn to recognize the important role of women in preserving and promoting rich cultural diversity and traditions; to commit to promoting gender equality in all aspects of life including education, employment, politics, and decision-making processes; to work towards addressing unique challenges faced by women particularly those from indigenous communities; vow to create safe spaces for women and girls, free from all forms of discrimination and violence and; vow to bridge the digital gender gap.

In her message, Dr. Dugyon reminded everyone that celebrating Women’s Month is not just about recognizing women’s rights.

“While Women’s Month strongly recognizes women’s rights, I also want you to understand that it is so much more than this. It is about the rights of all genders. It is a call to recognize equity and fairness in a world where discrimination and violence thrive. We emphasize women’s role in nation-building, but we also call on men to be fellow advocates for the cause of gender equity,” remarked Dr. Dugyon.

As a University committed to the empowerment of women and to ensuring a safe Gender and Development responsive environment, the University lined up a series of engaging, healthy, and informative activities across all campuses. These include the conduct of women’s health awareness campaigns, gender sensitivity seminars, and the provision of technical assistance to women-led organizations and health services to the community.
