E&T Baddangan Program educates children on healthy lifestyle 


As part of its call for social responsibility, the Department of Extension and Training had its Baddangan: Community Outreach Program at Jacmal Elementary School, Jacmal, Aguinaldo, Ifugao on March 22, 2019.

For this year, the Baddangan program focused on community health and wellness to address the pressing problems on health in the province of Ifugao due to the lack of health facilities.

In a message delivered by Ms. Froylyn G. Mutal, School Farm Demonstrator in behalf of the DET Director, Ms. Marah Joy A. Nanglegan, she encouraged the pupils that even as young as they are, there are simple things they can do to stay healthy such as proper hygiene. In addition, she encouraged the parents that they can always feel free to communicate to the university their needs and the university will try their best to help based on their field of expertise. “We have extension and training programs in Agriculture, Education, Health, Peace and Order, Livelihood, and Entrepreneurship Development, and others. We’re looking forward to partner with you in the future,” she added.

On the other hand, series of activities were conducted such as lecture on proper hygiene. The DET staff s led the demonstration on the washing of hands to the kids and was assisted by their respective teachers.

Meanwhile, the gift -giving took placed, catering to at least 52 pupils from Pre-school to Grade 2. There were 25 bag packs and 100 school kits distributed. Clothes were given to the parents. Extra kits were left to the teachers-in-charge for the other pupils who were not present that day.

Moreover, Ms. Joan Maingit, preschool teacher, thanked IFSU for the outreach endeavour and hoped for continues partnership.

“Baddangan”, Ifugao term which means helping each other, is a program of IFSU through the DET to serve as a way of reaching out and touching the lives of the people, contributing to the social goal of human development.//by:Elvira M. Matabye
