CHED awards IFSU a PhP22 million funding grant

Ifugao State University (IFSU) gets a PhP22 million funding grant from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for the upgrading of its Electrical Engineering Laboratories at Lagawe Campus.

The items include AC Power Transmission Training System materials (Student Manuals, Instructor Guides, Workstation, Three Phase AC Power Circuits, AC Transmission Lines, Resistive Load, Inductive Load, Capacitive Load, Three-Phase Transformer Bank, Three-Phase Regulating Autotransformer, Power Supply, Connection Lead Set, Data Acquisition and Control Interface, 24 V AC Power Supply, Dust Cover for Workstations, Mobile Storage Cabinet), delivery and installation, training, and protection system (Panel Board, Circuit Breakers, Protection Relays).

Thousands of engineering students in the region attend the IFSU College of Engineering and Technology (CET). It has long been a source of concern that the laboratory equipment and facilities are insufficient for the student body. In reality, some of this gear is already obsolete. According to the CHED's Revised Policies, Standards, and Guidelines (PSG), engineering programs must have a new minimum quantity of laboratory equipment and facilities in order to be approved by the CHED with a Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC).

According to Engr. Dahlia Gay Bunolna, CET Dean, they are working on the paperwork needed so that the laboratory can be utilized as soon as possible.

IFSU President, Dr. Eva Marie Codamon-Dugyon, expressed her gratitude and appreciation to everybody who contributed to the proposal’s approval.

"We owe a huge debt of appreciation to CHED, led by Chairperson Sir Prospero De Vera, for approving our project proposal and providing unwavering support to IFSU. Thank you also to the IFSU Board of Regents (BOR), which is chaired by Commissioner Lilian De Las Llagas, for endorsing our proposal, as well as Atty. Lily Freida Milla, Deputy Executive Director of CHED International Affairs Staff. Congratulations and a standing ovation to the teachers and staff of the College of Engineering-Lagawe Campus for responding to our request for a proposal, for meeting all of the conditions, and for all of the hard work put into this project," Dugyon ended.
