POs, SMEs capacitated on meat, root crops processing


Various peoples’ organizations (POs) and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) of Lamut and Lagawe, Ifugao benefited from a four-day skills training on meat and root crops processing at the Ifugao State University (IFSU) Home and Technology Building on October 20-23, 2020.

At least 18 representatives from Ayangan - Lagawe Community Based Forest Management Association (ALCBFMA), Buyabuyan Savings and Credit Organization (BSCO), Caba Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative (CFMC), Federation of Responsive Association for Magat Ecology Inc. (FRAMEI), Olilicon Irrigators Association (OIAI), Ponghal Farmers Organization (PFO), Pullaan Women’s Organization (PWO), and Tungngod Pro- Environment Organization (TPEO) of Lagawe, Ifugao and different small and medium enterprises (SMEs) of Lamut, Ifugao attended the said skills training.

“The activity aims to help and expose different POs and SMEs on other possible business enterprises that are viable within their respective community. One of which is to produce products and new recipes out of root crops and meat” said Linda W. Tagtagon, a CAHS faculty member and one of the trainers.

The participants were capacitated to process meat to skinless longanisa and siomai. Moreover, they were also taught how to produce doughnut, butchi, rolls, chips, cookies from camote, cassava, and taro.

Proper food handling and preparation, and proper labelling of products which is essential in food industry were also shared to them.

Herminia A. Abbac, farmer-member of the CFMC said that camote is one of the root crops that is commonly available in her backyard. Accordingly, the training taught her different ways of cooking camote aside from boiling.

The Ifugao State University - Home Technology Department in partnership with Community Environment and Natural Resources Office – CENRO-Lamut and Department of Trade of Industry - Negosyo Center Lamut conducted said training activity.
