BPSU benchmarks IFSU on heritage conservation

With the University’s strong research leadership and culture, Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) visited Ifugao State University (IFSU)-Main Campus to learn about the best practices on Indigenous knowledge, Systems, and Practices (IKSPs) conservation and sustainable development studies on September 6, 2022.

Nathaniel F. Dimog, Campus Executive Director (CED), Jude C. Baggo, Director for the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS) Center, and Dr. Desiree G. Nangpuhan, Dean of the College of Education (COE) of the University warmly welcomed the delegates of BPSU.

“Our visit aims to adopt IFSU’s best practices on heritage conservation as our guide in the establishment of our Center for Research Studies and to preserve and promote the IKSPs of Bataan,” said Dr. Leandro Olubia, OIC-Dean of the College of Education of BPSU.

Rolly Keth B. Nabanalan, the staff member of GIAHS, shared a brief history of the Research and Development Center for the Ifugao Rice Terraces IRT-GIAHS Center, its linkages, collaborations, research, and extension activities.

During their visit to the Ifugao Rice Cultural Museum of the University, Dr. Liza Matic Tamargo, Director of University Library Services and Museum, enlightened the team on the rice culture cycle of Ifugao from planting preparation to harvesting and activities relevant to the rice cycle such as rice wine making, wood carving, and back strap weaving.

The team also paid a courtesy visit to the University's top official Dr. Eva Marie Codamon-Dugyon, University President. Dr. Dugyon thanked the visitors for choosing IFSU as a prospect or basis for establishing their own Research Center.

“I hope that you have learned something in our University that will be helpful in your decisions for the development of your Center,” said Dr. Dugyon.

Drafting and reviewing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on heritage conservation efforts concluded the event.
