To strengthen the preservation of Ifugao culture and practices, Ifugao State University (IFSU)-Hapao campus launched its second batch of Indigenous Skills Training Course on Stone Walling (Muntupping) and Stone Tiling (Mundakdak) at Hapao campus on October 21, 2022.

Said event, which will run until January next year, aims to equip 20 students and out-of-school youths with the basic knowledge and skills on Stone Walling and Stone Tiling.

Dr. Jose Daniels, Campus Executive Director, said the training will build competence in using tools and techniques in building stone walls and stone tiles and boost the career opportunities of trainees.

Meanwhile, Ms. Melita Pinic, Officer-in-charge of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-Lagawe, added that the training will foster a strong sense of identity and pride, enabling students to develop a wider recognition and understanding of their culture.

Said event is an offshoot of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) of IFSU, Local Government Unit (LGU) of Hungduan, and TESDA-Lagawe on June 30, 2022.

Mr. Jose Pocdihon, a local resident, an Indigenous Person, and a long-time practitioner of stonewalling and stone tiling, serves as the trainer for the whole duration of the training.
