IFSU-Potia trains farmers orgs on tree-parenting toward env’t sustainability


To teach farmer organizations about establishing successful tree plantation, agroforestry and agro-ecotourism site, the Ifugao State University (IFSU)- Potia Campus conducted a seminar-workshop on Tree-parenting for Enhance Environmental Sustainability (TREES) on June 6, 2022.

Part of the activity was a field visit showcasing the first successful model Tree Plantation and Agroforestry site which is located inside the Eco-Trail cum Eco-park.

“The model tree plantation and agroforestry site here in IFSU Potia Campus is the best that we could show as a science-based model site for farmers to adopt in their community,” said project leader Eric D. Bimmoy.

Meanwhile, farmer-participants planted 26 avocado seedlings at the Model Agroforestry site.

Presidents of Eastern Aguinaldo Community Development Association (ECODEA); Pinto Vegetables Growers Association (PVGA); Banahaw Upland Farmers Association (BUFAS); Balligi Maligaya Batallion Calikcip Upland Farmers (BMBC); Saranay Multi-Purpose Cooperatives; and Bambanay Upland Farmers Association (BAMUFAS) participated in the said event.

Carmelito C. Valdez; and Foresters Daniel Bernardino and Fernando Aquino from the College of Agriculture and Forestry and DENR-CENRO Alfonso Lista, respectively served as resource speakers.
