IRT stakeholders harmonize 2024 plans of action

In a move to systematize different programs and activities for the Ifugao Rice Terraces (IRT), the Ifugao State University (IFSU) Lamut Campus hosted the stakeholders meeting initiated by the Philippine National Commission for UNESCO (UNACOM) on February 8, 2024.

Among the 2024 targets include the conduct of a series of community meetings as part of education and information campaigns on World Heritage, its attributes, criteria, and Outstanding Universal Value; and the construction of World Heritage markers in the heritage clusters. The community meetings will also serve as a venue for the crafting of the heritage code and master plan for the IRT.

IFSU President Eva Marie Codamon-Dugyon assured the support and cooperation of the University in all the conservation efforts towards the IRT. "As the lone higher education institution in the province, we must contribute to safeguarding our heritage. The IRT is our cultural identity, a source of food for people, and a gift to the future generation, " she added.

UNACOM Secretary General Anthony S. Henares emphasized the need to harmonize programs and activities in the IRT. Moreover, he shared recent funding development to implement activities in heritage clusters to produce heritage codes and policies.

Ifugao Provincial Local Government Unit; Local Government Unit representatives of Banaue; Hungduan and Kiangan; and the Save Ifugao Terraces Movement participated in the meeting.
