IFSU educators undergo workshop on IKS instructional materials development
Recognizing the value of integrating indigenous knowledge and systems (IKS) in its curriculum, the Ifugao State University (IFSU) launched its Happitan: A Discourse on Indigenous Knowledge and System for IFSU Educators on December 10, 2020.
The training program is in sync with the University’s Strategic Plan crafted in 2018 and vision to be “A globally recognized University upholding excellence amidst rich cultural heritage. It is also in fulfillment of CHED Memo Order No. 02 s. 2019 on the Integration of indigenous peoples’ studies education into the relevant higher education curriculum.”
“The launching of our IFSU IKS educators training is a clear indication of our commitment to institutionalize IKS education in our programs. As a University nourished by the rich cultural heritage for 100 years, we recognized the value of our ancestors’ wisdom, and proven sustainable practices on all aspects of life,” remarked IFSU President Dr. Eva Marie Codamon-Dugyon.
She added that to continuously develop and produce IKS knowledge products by infusing global experiences of indigenous peoples is one of our contributions in mainstreaming IKS as viable alternatives and approaches to sustainable development and living in harmony with nature. "Moreover, this program is a pathway to attain the University’s goal to produce culturally-sensitive graduates," she added.
Sixteen faculty members across the IFSU campuses are expected to produce IKS instructional materials (IMs) by end of the training program. These outputs will be added to the growing IK-related scholarly works of the University.
The training program is one of the components of the Center for Taiwan-Philippines Indigenous and Local Knowledge and Sustainable Studies Project entered by IFSU and the National Chengchi University of Taiwan.
