IFSU joins 45th Nutri Month celeb

Dr. Mary Jo P. Dulawan, former Ifugao Provincial Health Officer, gave a talk about the current status of the province regarding the case of malnutrition in line with the celebration of Nutrition Month during the flag ceremony on July 29, 2019 at the Ifugao State University (IFSU) Lamut Campus, Nayon, Lamut, Ifugao.

“Our health is our passport to our dreams and aspirations in life and discipline and self-control is the key to healthy living,” Dr. Dulawan said. She also added that as a worker we should learn how to manage our health to deliver excellent services to our clients.

Accordingly, Ifugao’s malnutrition rate is below 2%, which is lowest in Cordillera amongst the six (6) provinces and one (1) city.

She also mentioned that the current health situation that our province is facing right now is overnutrition or obesity. Overnutrition is a form of malnutrition in which the intake of nutrients is oversupplied. The amount of nutrients exceeds the amount required for normal growth, development, and metabolism. Anything that is not balanced or in excess results to being overnutrition which can lead to diseases.

She pointed out the 10 living causes of death in our province, namely: cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, diabetes, cancer, kidney problems, among others that are results of overnutrition.

She reminded everyone to practice a healthy lifestyle in order to become an effective public servant.
