IFSU, Kanazawa University and JICA affirm commitment for Ifugao Rice Terraces conservation
The Ifugao State University (IFSU), Kanazawa University and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) reiterated their commitment in the conservation and preservation of the Ifugao Rice Terraces by strengthening their international partnership and collaboration.
Dr. Eva Marie Codamon-Dugyon, IFSU University President in her recent meetings with the President of Kanazawa University, Dr. Yamazaki Koetsu, and JICA-Hokuriku Center Director Mr. Tomoki Nitta in Kanazawa, Ishikawa, Japan on October 22, 2018, recognized the invaluable contributions of the two institutions to the people of Ifugao.
“We are truly grateful of our partnership with the Kanazawa University and JICA in the conservation and protection efforts in the Ifugao Rice Terraces as the only Globally Important Agricultural Heritage systems recognized by the United Nations Food and Agriculture in 2007,” said University President Dugyon.
Through the Ifugao Satoyama Meister Training Program (ISMTP), a joint project by the University of the Philippines-Open University, IFSU Provincial Government of Ifugao, JICA, Kanazawa University and IFSU, the University has been in the forefront to attain the objectives in strengthening local initiatives and capacity building projects in the conservation of the Ifugao Rice Terraces.
