IFSU Tourism and HomeTech Students undergo Skills Training Workshop
The Travel Expo consisted of three major activities namely: a forum, an exhibit and a workshop.
Bachelor of Science in Tourism and Bachelor of Science Home Technology students of IFSU Main Campus were the core participants.
The skills training workshop consisted of Fruit and Vegetable Carving, Flower Arrangement, Napkin and Towel Folding & Table Skirting, and Bartending.
The trainers were from Baguio.
The objective of the workshop is to demonstrate and coach students and practitioners on different skills that are vital to the tourism industry through demo and workshops.
Thus, the workshop is needed to equip the students with competence that are at par with industry standards and help them seek employment with confidence.
The workshops were done for 5 days, from April 24-28, 2017. The workshop is in partnership with Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
The participants chose the skill they wanted to learn. Almost 200 students participated in the said workshop.
Jan Lawrence Carame, Hotels and Restaurants Association of Baguio (HRAB) winner from Saint Louis University (SLU) was in-charge of the Fruit and Vegetable Carving while Kenneth Mark Bacani, HRAB winner from SLU also supervised the Bartending. Rodolfo Lumague Jr, SLU Instructor was in-charge on the Napkin & Towel Folding and Table Skirting while Constance Florentin, Trainer, facilitated the Flower Arrangement.
There were 100 participants attended the Napkin/Towel folding and Table Skirting while 50 participants joined on each training skills.
Outputs of the participants were demonstrated and displayed during the closing ceremony of the said workshop and during the first IFSU Travel Expo at the Luis Hora Gymnasium on May 4-5, 2017. #
