IFSU supports Blood Donation
IFSU Main Campus welcomes Dr. Priscilla Pagada from the Provincial Health Office during the flag raising ceremony this morning, March 20 in front of the administration building.
Dr. Pagada encouraged everyone to donate blood in relation to Republic Act 7719 also known as the National Blood Services Act of 1994, which promotes voluntary blood donation to provide sufficient supply of safe blood and to regulate blood banks.
RA 7719 section 4-b, mandates schools to promote the advocacy of the voluntary blood donation.
RA 7719, section 4-b states; Promotion of Voluntary Blood Donation,
b) Promotion in Schools. – The benefits and rationale of voluntary blood donation shall be included and given emphasis in health subjects of schools, both public and private, at the elementary, high school and college levels. The Department of Education, Culture and Sports shall also require such inclusion in its non-formal education curricula.
On the other hand, Philippine Red Cross is the sole blood collecting unit since the province has no capability yet to be the collecting unit except being a blood station.
The province has two blood stations namely; Panopdopan District Hospital and Potia District Hospital. According to Dr. Pagada, being a blood health facility, the hospital needs to meet requirement of licensing which makes it difficult to be qualified.
Meanwhile, Dr. Diosdado M. Aquino, Director of IFSU Main Campus reminds the volunteers who want to donate blood to refrain from engaging in activities that may disqualify them in donating blood. He also encouraged everyone to donate blood.
